Who we are:
Bodhi Bus is NT’s only Not-For-Profit remote passenger bus service.
We carry more than 20,000 passengers a year between more than 50 remote communities on safe, reliable and regular route services.
We also offer customised charter solutions across our amazing Top End and cost effective small freight services between our regular destinations.
All of our profits go back to improving our services, reducing fares and contributing to community services and events. It’s what makes us different.
Booking to travel with Bodhi Bus really does make a difference.
How we came to be:
The history of remote bus services in the Northern Territory began in Alice Springs over 20 years ago. The first service, from Docker River to Alice Springs, was established by Alan Passmore of Centre Bush Bus in 1998. Centre Bush Bus has since grown to provide services to over 35 remote Aboriginal communities in Central Australia.
Many years later in 2009, David Bursle, an employee of Centre Bush Bus, brought the Centre Bush Bus model north and began operating remote bus services out of Katherine across the Top End as Bodhi Bus.
Through strategic development, Bodhi Bus changed from a commercial, profit focused business to become the first and only not-for-profit remote bus operator in the Northern Territory with Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) status in March 2017.
The majority of our revenue is generated by fares collected. We receive minimal Government funding support.
Our not-for-profit constitutional charter and strict governance requirements ensure that all profits are directed back to improving our services, reducing fares and / or supporting community causes and events such as the Barunga Festival, Freedom Day Festival and Gapuwiyak Festival. This is what makes Bodhi Bus different.
Bodhi Bus currently connects over 40 remote communities throughout the Top End of the Northern Territory with regular services to Numbulwar, Ngukurr, Minyerri, Borroloola, Lajamanu, Kalkarindji, Bulman, Gapuwiyak and Palmerston as well as remote outstations on request.
We provide regular transport for individual travellers, Territory Top End Health patients and corporate clients, to and from Katherine and on our connecting services. We operate services to communities bi-weekly and to Darwin four times a week. Our customised charters are booked as required.
Our drivers are all experienced and fully accredited including Ochre Card / Working With Children accreditation, so you can trust that you and / or your loved ones will be in the safest of hands when you travel with us.
If you have not travelled with Bodhi Bus before then we hope to welcome you soon.
